Travel insurance
So a bout of flu doesn't cost you your trip.
A broken ankle three days before departure, a hospital stay at your destination, a suitcase that never arrives: travel insurance is boring until it isn't. We arrange ERV policies and explain here, honestly, what they cover and what they don't.
Why it matters
Your trip is paid long before you fly
We book hotels and airlines as fixed reservations, so if you cancel shortly before departure the costs are still there. That is exactly what travel insurance is for: it covers the cancellation costs if you can't travel for an insured reason, and it helps you at your destination if something happens.
For this one trip
ERV Single Trip
The premium depends on your trip price per person: small trip, small premium. Prices start at CHF 38.
Premium per person
| Trip price per person | Premium |
|---|---|
| up to CHF 500 | CHF 38 |
| CHF 500 – CHF 1,000 | CHF 63 |
| CHF 1,000 – CHF 1,500 | CHF 88 |
| CHF 1,500 – CHF 2,000 | CHF 109 |
| CHF 2,000 – CHF 3,000 | CHF 140 |
| CHF 3,000 – CHF 5,000 | CHF 275 |
| CHF 5,000 – CHF 10,000 | CHF 395 |
If your trip price is above CHF 10,000 per person, ERV sets the premium individually. We get it for you instead of guessing a number here.

Is it worth it for you?
As a rule of thumb: from the second trip per year. Two single trips at around CHF 1,500 trip price each cost CHF 88 × 2 = CHF 176, while the ERV Multi Trip Clever (Jahresversicherung) costs CHF 155 for the whole year. With only one trip a year, the single-trip policy is cheaper.
Pay attention to the cover limits: annual policies cover luggage at a much lower amount than the single-trip policy, but they include all trips of the year.
Plain talk
What is covered, and what is not
The most common disappointment comes not from the cover but from expectations. So here it is without sugar-coating.
Covered
- Cancellation due to illness or accident, whether yours, a travel companion's or a close relative's.
- Medical costs and medical help at your destination, including a 24-hour SOS centre.
- Luggage that is damaged, lost or stolen.
- Search and rescue costs up to the insured sum.
- Natural events and wildfires if your destination is officially evacuated, directly affected or demonstrably dangerous, as in summer 2023 on Rhodes, when whole coastal towns were evacuated.
Not covered
- Fear of an event. Example: Crete is in the news for wildfires, but your hotel in Hersonissos is not evacuated and not affected. That is not a reason to cancel, even if it feels uncertain when booking.
- A trip you cancel because you changed your mind or because it doesn't suit you privately or professionally.
- Events that were already known or foreseeable when the policy was taken out.
- Costs that another insurance already covers.
What counts is always the wording of the insurance terms of ERV, not this summary. If a specific case worries you, ask us beforehand: we go through the terms with you instead of surprising you when a claim arises.
Residency: important for international groups
Are you travelling with friends or a partner from abroad?
The policies require legal residence in Switzerland or Liechtenstein. Anyone without that residence can still be insured, but only with a policy that runs for four months at most, and the policy must be taken out while the person is in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
For a normal holiday that is no problem, as the single-trip policy is well under four months. Annual insurance, however, runs for twelve months and is not possible without residence in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
Just tell us who is travelling and where they live. We sort this out before booking. It is one line in a conversation and, in a claim, the whole difference.
